Summary

At the end of the day, you’re not going to find yourself with loads of cash from hanging out on InboxDollars. Yet you can earn a few extra bucks for doing fun stuff like completing surveys and watching videos.

What is InboxDollars?

As I mentioned earlier, InboxDollars is one of many get-paid-to sites. Like Swagbucks, InboxDollars will pay you for completing specific tasks.

As you complete the available tasks, you earn cash. The more tasks you complete, the more money you earn (so they say).

Like Swagbucks, InboxDollars uses the information it collects to help companies do market research. Then they have data to create products and services that are tailored to consumer needs. But is InboxDollars a truly legit company?

Is InboxDollars Legit?

InboxDollars has been in business since the year 2000. And that says something regarding the legitimacy of the company. They’ve also been featured several times on Inc. magazine’s top 5000 entrepreneur list.

This list features the top privately held companies in the U.S. Ratings are based on revenue growth over three years. InboxDollars has made the list six times (as of this writing). Plus, this fact speaks to the validity of the company as well.

Personally, as a member of InboxDollars, I can tell you that they are legit. I’ve used them on and off over the last two years to earn money.

According to their website, they’ve paid out over 60 million dollars to members to-date. I think that qualifies them as a legit company. They’ve put their money where their mouth is when it comes to paying members.

So, what exactly do they pay members to do?

How do I Earn Money Through InboxDollars?

When you complete one or more of the various tasks InboxDollars offers, you earn money. After you’ve made at least $30, you can request payment.

However, it’s important to note that you will get charged a transaction fee of $3 if you cash out for anything under $40. For that reason, you may want to wait until you’ve earned $40 before you request payment.

InboxDollars will send you a check or pay you via e-payment. You get to choose how you want to receive the money you’ve requested.

According to the InboxDollars website, there are several things you can do to earn money with them. Let’s go over each income-earning avenue with a brief summary.

Get Paid for Signing Up

As of this writing, InboxDollars will pay you $5 just for signing up. To sign up, you need to start by entering your email address and creating a password.

After that, you’ll get asked to answer several demographics related questions. These questions help InboxDollars better direct you to surveys you’ll qualify for.

Companies doing market research, target different demographic groups for each product. So this information is vital. Also, you won’t earn your $5 sign up bonus until you’ve completed the demographics questions.

The process takes around 10 minutes. It’s an easy way to earn five bucks.

Get Paid for Taking Surveys

Another way you can get paid with InboxDollars is by completing surveys. It seems to be their primary source of helping companies with research marketing.

When you share your opinions about products and services, it helps companies. They get the information they need to create desirable products and services.

The types of surveys you’ll get offered through InboxDollars varies. You may get a survey that asks you about the personal products you use.

Or you may get a survey that asks you about your political beliefs. The range of topics in the surveys I see as an InboxDollars member varies widely.

Some questions concern the products I use and some are about whether I’d be interested in a product. And still, other surveys ask my personal opinions on news, politics or celebrity events.

The InboxDollars website says that each survey pays up to $5, and sometimes more. In my experience, most surveys fell within that “under $5” range.

The per-hour earnings on surveys with InboxDollars is pretty low. For instance, I received an offer of 50 cents for a 20-minute survey.

Plus, it’s important to note that you can get part way through a survey and then be told you don’t qualify. If you don’t qualify, you won’t earn money for completing the survey.

However, there are other bonuses for completing surveys too. For instance, the site has a Spin and Win game that can earn you sweepstakes entries or even additional cash.

These extra bonuses can make taking surveys more lucrative.

Get Paid for Shopping

InboxDollars will also pay you for shopping. Just access online stores through your InboxDollars membership. Then InboxDollars will give you cash back on your purchases.

A few of the cash back offerings they shared on the site when I checked included:

  • 2% cash back when you buy at Kohl’s
  • 1.5% cash back when you shop at The Gap
  • 2% cash back when you purchase at Walmart
  • 2.5% cash back when you shop at Express

The InboxDollars site says it shares online shopping deals and cashback offerings from hundreds of popular retailers.

Get Paid for Watching Videos

InboxDollars will also pay you for watching videos. The types of videos they’ll pay you to watch changes and varies from day to day.

For instance, they might pay you to watch a news clip. Or, they might pay you to watch a video of a movie preview.

To be honest, most of the videos they ask you to watch don’t pay well. The majority of them pay under five cents.

So, if you’re going to be watching videos anyway, you may as well earn some cash while doing so. But I wouldn’t recommend watching just to earn, as the pay is dismal.

Get Paid to Read Emails

Yes, InboxDollars will pay you to read some of the emails they send you. Note that they pay just a few cents for reading each email. And you’ll only get a few paid emails (as in under five) per day.

Also important to note: The emails often contain offers for cashback on deals. So, you can earn additional cash for taking advantage of these deals.

For example, they might offer you $10 cash back to sign up for an online service. However, you do have to spend money to make money.

Therefore, I’d advise you to tread carefully when it comes to earning cash back for completing these offers. If you weren’t planning on buying the product or service, then you’re losing money and not earning money.

Get Paid to Play Games

Another way you can earn money with InboxDollars is by playing games you access through the site. However, it’s important to note that in most cases you need to pay money to play the game you’ll earn the cash back on.

There are some games you can play for free. But on those games, you’ll earn progress on the InboxDollars Scratch and Win bar, and not actual cash just for playing.

The five ways mentioned above are the primary ways you can earn cash from the site. Next, let’s see what official consumer review sites are saying about InboxDollars.

InboxDollars BBB Rating

CotterWeb Enterprises owns InboxDollars and has been accredited by the BBB since 2012. The BBB gives CotterWeb at A+ rating.

However, customer reviews give them 2 out of 5 stars. Most of the complaints I read centered around the company not paying for a task. Or they were about them terminating accounts.

It was nice to see that InboxDollars reps had responded to many of the complaints. Also, they wrote more than a standard response. It was clear they had looked into and attempted to explain the issue to reviewers.

InboxDollars Trustpilot Rating

On Trustpilot, InboxDollars has a “Great” rating (or 4 out of 5 stars).

57% of reviewers rated them “excellent,” while 22% of reviewers rated them “great.” Most of the negative reviews that I read on Trustpilot centered around the level of pay.

Reviewers stated that the “per task” payout was low. This is a valid complaint. Although you will get paid for completing tasks, the pay won’t be very attractive.

Next, let’s summarize the pros and cons of InboxDollars.

Pros and Cons of InboxDollars

As with anything, there are pros and cons to using InboxDollars. Here is a list of some of both.

InboxDollars Pros

  • You can make money with InboxDollars in your spare time. Even if you have just a few minutes to spare, you can earn cash.
  • InboxDollars pays you in real cash – not in points or gift cards.
  • If you shop online or take advantage of offers, you can earn some serious money.
  • InboxDollars will pay you just for signing up, and it’s free to be a member.

Now let’s talk about some of the not-so-great things about InboxDollars.

InboxDollars Cons

  • InboxDollars doesn’t pay you big bucks for most tasks. Most tasks will pay you only a few cents to a few dollars.
  • Some people will have trouble finding surveys they qualify for.
  • If you get too drawn in by the cashback offers, you could find yourself spending more money than you’d planned on.

In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons. But the cons are worth considering seriously. What else should you know about InboxDollars?

What Else I Should Know About InboxDollars

I think one of the most important things you should know about InboxDollars is that it won’t make you rich. You’re not going to be able to support yourself by taking surveys and watching videos through the site.

But if you need to earn more money online, then I suggest checking out some of these online jobs for college students. Note that you don’t have to be a college student to work all of them.

There are legit companies that will pay you a living wage for working online. However, InboxDollars doesn’t fall into this category.

Instead, InboxDollars is more of a fun way to earn a few extra bucks in your spare time. If you are sitting around with nothing to do, you may as well make some money.

Or, if you’re waiting for an appointment or a class, you can take a survey or two. And if you like watching videos online, you may as well get paid to do so.

Also, it’s important to note that InboxDollars doesn’t use PayPal as a payment option. They’ll send you a check or use their e-payment system.

In addition, when you request payout they’ll send you your entire balance. You can’t request partial payment on your account.

Plus, I recommend reading the terms of service when you sign up. Several complaints on the BBB website revolved around accounts being terminated to the surprise of the member.

If you know what activities run the risk of getting your account terminated, you can avoid making those mistakes. That way you’ll be able to stay in good standing with the site.

Summary

At the end of the day, you’re not going to find yourself with loads of cash from hanging out on InboxDollars. Yet you can earn a few extra bucks for doing fun stuff like completing surveys and watching videos.

If you become an InboxDollars member with this in mind, you increase your chances of being happy with the site. But if you expect to get rich by watching videos and taking surveys, you will find yourself disappointed.

Use the site as it’s intended; as a way to make a bit of extra cash for completing tasks online. Don’t expect to pay your bills or earn vacation money.
